Manchester United Celebratw win vs Burnley

Burnley 0-1 Manchester United | Premier League | Player Ratings

David de Gea: 6

The Spaniard didn’t even have to break a sweat tonight. Burnley’s threat was neutralised in such a way that De Gea was untroubled for 90 minutes.

Defence

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 5

Struggled under the pressure of the Burnley aerial threat, but had a steady game overall.

Eric Bailly: 7

Bailly’s influence on Manchester United’s recent form is evident in the clean sheets the club have mustered in recent weeks. His pace, strength in the air and strangely quick feet ensure the emphasis can be placed on the attack. The Ivorian compliment his partner Harry Maguire well.

Harry Maguire: 7

Maguire is playing with a confidence that he lacked in the beginnings of the season. Part of that is due to Solskjaer’s continuation to play him through his tough spell and Bailly coming into the team. He was dominant and his performance deserved a goal which was harshly taken away from him by VAR as his back-post header was chalked off.

Luke Shaw: 6

Shaw is another player playing with a new lease of life. He’s spending more of his time in attacking areas, a part of his game that has been lacking. His crossing and forward play was integral to United creating chances.

Midfield

Nemanja Matic: 7

He’s called the midfield sergeant for a reason. The Serb slotted nicely into holding midfield and allowed the horses in front of him to run free. Matic also had an energy about him that meant he could get stuck into challenges, which was important when breaking up play.

Paul Pogba: 8

Who would’ve thought two months ago that a Pogba strike would take United to the top of the league? Sensational. The Frenchman took the game by the scruff of the neck and made it his own. Another complete performance.

Bruno Fernandes: 6

A quieter night for Fernandes in terms of his performance but the Portuguese Magnifico was vocal in his leadership.

Attack

Anthony Martial: 7

Energy sums up Martial’s performance as his interchangeability allowed him to be an option at all times drifting through the channels. All his performance lacked was a goal, he had the opportunity to get on the scoresheet at the end of some great interplay with Cavani but put it into the keeper.

Edinson Cavani: 6

Cavani was another that looked up for the game immensely, ready for Burnley’s physical test. However, he had some opportunities that he needed to take, the Uruguayan was lucky it didn’t come back to bite in the end.

Marcus Rashford: 5

Rashford assisted the winning goal but couldn’t get into the game on the right-hand side for its majority. A lot of effort but it just wasn’t his night.

Substitutes

Mason Greenwood: 6

Scott McTominay: n/a

Axel Tuanzebe: n/a
