Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-2 Leicester City

Manchester United 1-2 Leicester City | Premier League

Manchester United’s hectic run of 3 games within five days forced the hand of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to rotate. The team he selected, including full debuts for Amad and Anthony Elanga, were beaten by Leicester City.

An early Luke Thomas goal was almost instantly rebutted by a moment of class from Mason Greenwood. However, a single set piece in the second half was the difference on the night.

David de Gea: 6

The Spaniard is probably a bit aggrieved to be starting in what was an 11 of United’s reserves but he did well. De Gea could do very little to prevent Luke Thomas’ opener but did pull out a brilliant save to deny Kelechi Iheanacho.

Defence

Brandon Williams: 5

The full-back showed obvious ring rust with some loose passes which ultimately resulted in inviting pressure. Defensively he was pretty solid though.

Eric Bailly: 6

As one of the senior statesmen in the side his lack of composure at times was concerning. A bit more authority at the back was needed from big Eric.

Axel Tuanzebe: 7

Tuanzebe’s game started slowly as his on-ball decisions reeked of a player struggling for both confidence and playing time. However, in the second half, he showed his quality with some important defensive moments.

Alex Telles: 5

The Brazilian’s performance was another that left a huge deal to be desired. As another of the more experienced players, you’d hope that he could’ve grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and showed some decisiveness.

Midfield

Nemanja Matic: 7

The Serb’s performance really showed how influential a defensive midfielder with class cis on a team. While his physical attributes decline his eye for an interception and to carry the ball have stayed. A top performance from someone who’s seen little piling time this season.

Donny van de Beek: 4

Showed a real lack of confidence on the ball from a position United needed some authority. It was a chance to make his mark, he failed.

Juan Mata: 6

Had a couple touches of promise but the game passed him by, mainly due to its intensity.

Attack

Amad: 6

A tough game to make your Premier League debut in, but he showed real promiose setting up Greenwood’s goal.

Anthony Elanga: 6

Another debutant that definitely looked like a debutant. Was out-muscled a few times but definitely showed a willingness to make runs.

Mason Greenwood: 8

His finishing gets better every time I lay eyes on him the shift and manoeuvre for his goal was sublime.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford: 5

Edinson Cavani: 6

Bruno Fernandes: 6
