West Ham United vs Manchester United Preview

West Ham vs Manchester United | Premier League | London Stadium | Sky Sports

Following their disappointing defeat in midweek to Swiss side Young Boys, Manchester United return to familiar soil on Sunday afternoon, to face David Moyes’ West Ham United.

There was a lot of criticism thrown at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics and substitutes against Young Boys, so United must bounce back at The London Stadium in order to keep the faith of large portions of the fanbase.

Solskjaer substituted both Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, which ultimately led to The Reds’ defeat, so both players will be expected to be at full fitness for this clash.

In positive news, United started the weekend top of the table, undefeated, with 10 points out of a possible 12.

How do Manchester United look?

Despite the bizarre substitutions on Tuesday, United did not pick up any fresh injury concerns, meaning that Scott McTominay, Phil Jones, Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford, and Edinson Cavani remain the only confirmed absentees.

Cavani is yet to feature since the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, and it will be interesting to see how Solskjaer manages the two great strikers once they are both up for selection.

Speaking about the Uruguayan, the boss said “Edinson hopefully will start training with us after the weekend”, suggesting that he is close to a return.

“I see Edinson having a massive impact because he’s that type of personality and a player. He’s a top professional and he can’t wait to get back on. He’s working really hard to get back on the pitch” he added.

Jadon Sancho is yet to light the world up since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund, playing a passenger role in all of the matches so far and was subbed off following Aaron Wan Bissaka’s red card in midweek.

With Marcus Rashford back in training and the form of both Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood, the pressure will be on the Englishman to begin performing in red.

Opposition: West Ham United

David Moyes, in his second spell at the club, is performing well at West Ham United and appears to have found his level once again following his disaster spell at Old Trafford.

They are currently unbeaten in the league this season, and a win would take them above United, making a win even more essential for Solskjaer’s men.

They will, however, be without key player Michail Antonio, who is suspended, which will be a huge blow for The Irons.

Having conceded five goals in just eight shots on their goal this season, United must attack this game, testing the goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski as much as possible.

Key Stats

United have won their last three games against West Ham in all competitions, including coming from behind to win 3-1 in this fixture last season.

Prediction

West Ham United 1-2 Manchester United.
