Alejandro Garnacho has won Manchester United’s Player of the Month award for the month of November, voted for by the fans on the official club app.

The 18-year-old has stolen the headlines over a short period of 11 days, contributing with two goals and two assists across the four fixtures. Of course, due to the World Cup break, the month was cut short, hence why the nominees have been evaluated over less games than usual.

Garnacho claimed a whopping 67% of the votes, beating David De Gea (21%) and Casemiro (12%) to win a first ever Player of the Month award in what is his first full season with the first team squad.

The month started off with a first senior goal for a youngster away on the continent; Garnacho raced in behind Real Sociedad’s defence and fired the ball into the roof of the net from the left-hand side, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win on the road. Sadly, it was not enough to put his side top of the group in the Europa League, but he certainly showed his capabilities in Europe.

The performance justified his first Premier League start against Aston Villa, which was a quieter showing for Garnacho in a 3-1 defeat, but he had a sweet taste of revenge four days later in the Carabao Cup game at Old Trafford.

The Argentine came off the bench at 2-2 to provide assists for both Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay and it is fait to say he really helped put the game to bed. The second assist, a lofted through ball, will live long in the minds of fans.

Undoubtedly, the standout moment of the month for Garnacho was his 93rd-minute winner at Craven Cottage which saw United scrape over the line against Fulham in a 2-1 win. He had come off the bench with twenty minutes to go and sparked some life into a side lacking any sparkle as The Reds snatched an important three points.

It has been a joy to watch for fans, who will be keen to observe his development in the near future. Everyone will be hoping that Erik ten Hag manages him well and that he keeps his feet on the ground whilst he learns the trade.

This is the first time this season that a new Ten Hag signing has not won the award, following Lisandro Martinez (August), Christian Eriksen (September) and Casemiro (October) all winning Player of the Month in their debut campaigns.

Congratulations to Garnacho and long may his good form continue!
