Casemiro has been voted the Manchester United Player of the Month for October 2022, making that the third consecutive month where a new signing has couped the award under Erik Ten Hag.
The summer signing had to be patient following his arrival from Real Madrid, often finding himself on the bench in the first few weeks of his life at Old Trafford, but the Brazilian midfielder has flourished in the defensive-midfield role over the last month and Scott McTominay has seemingly lost his starting spot for the foreseeable future.
The Player of the Month faced hefty competition for the prize for October, with fans voting for one of four players on the official club app. Defenders Diogo Dalot (16%) and Lisandro Martinez (31%) were in and amongst the nominees, as was forward Marcus Rashford (19%), but it was Casemiro who pipped it with 34% of the vote.Embed from Getty Images
The month started for the five-time Champions League winner with a full Premier League debut away at Goodison Park. After an error early on that allowed Alex Iwobi to give the home side the lead, Casemiro recovered well to assist Cristiano Ronaldo for what proved to be the winning goal, putting in a solid destroyer performance in the middle of the park.
He was recognised as the Man of the Match in the stalemate against Newcastle as he provided a delightful outside of the foot cross for what should have been a late winner, and then went on to provide a late equaliser in the next game against Chelsea where he also won the Man of the Match award. His passionate celebrations in the away end at Stamford Bridge really endeared the 30-year-old into the hearts of the United faithful.
The new no.18 has been a pleasure to watch at the Theatre of Dreams and has been described by Ten Hag to be “the cement in the midfield”, with the Dutchman adding: “He is a top player and I am really happy to have him here” following the 1-0 win over West Ham last weekend.
As was previously mentioned, this now means that a new Ten Hag signing has been Player of the Month for the three consecutive months since the start of the campaign, with Casemiro following both Martinez, who won the award for August, and Christian Eriksen, who won the award for September.
Congratulations to Casemiro and long may the good form and accomplished performances continue.
