Donny Van De Beek Role At Manchester United Revealed!

Donny van de Beek seems certain to be announced officially as a Manchester United player in the coming days. The Dutchman has put pen to paper on a deal that would see him earn £120,000 a week at Old Trafford. As with any signing Manchester United make, the requirement the marquee acquisition seems prominent among fans even with this deal. “Where will he play?” “do Manchester United need him?”. Reports from the Dutch press suggest that Solskjaer revealed Van De Beek’s role to him.

According to Algmeen Dagblad Solskjaer is said to have expressed his desire to play van De Beek in an advanced role. Despite early guesses that the Ajax academy graduate could fill a withdrawn role, Solskjaer sees the 23-year-old as a ‘number 10’.

One of van De Beek’s key strengths is his ability to drift through defensive lines undetected. His intelligent movement and game understanding allows him to stand off the striker awaiting quick interplay to create chances. As per Transfermarkt, playing in this position in more than 50% of his appearances has allowed him to contribute 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. 3 of his goal contributions came in 5 Champions League appearances which included goals vs. Valencia and Chelsea respectively.

While it is still uncertain what Solskjaer’s best 11 will look like, the signing of Donny van De Beek has certainly bolstered midfield options in terms of overall quality.

The Dutch international has also been reported to favour the number 34 shirt as a tribute to ex teammate Abdelhak Nouri who suffered a Cardiac Arrhythmia attack in July 2017.
