Preview: Tranmere Rovers vs Manchester United | 26/01/2020 | Emirates FA Cup | Prenton Park | 15:00 GMT
Alex Stepney, Steve Coppell, Sammy Mcilroy and Lou Macari were on the teamsheet the last time Manchester United’s senior team faced Tranmere Rovers back in 1976. Manchester United, managed by Tommy Docherty, finished 6th that season but went on to win the famous ’77 FA cup. Perhaps we can expect something similar from Solskjaer’s boys this season…
How Do Manchester United Look?Embed from Getty Images
Manchester United are riddled with injuries this season. So any attempt to play a strong team would be suicide. Rashford, Mctominay, and Paul Pogba will remain sidelined with long term injuries. Out of fear of encouraging any more, Ole must rotate this threadbare squad. How he does that? I’d guess youth and a lot of hope, which ironically could be argued to be Ole’s philosophy for United.
Victor Lindelof missed our loss to Burnley with illness, Ole confirmed he will be available for the trip to Prenton Park. The forgotten man Axel Tuanzebe is also in contention for minutes.

Tranmere Rovers are 21st in League 1 but after upsetting Watford in the replay midweek (Yes the same Watford that beat us) the Super whites will be confident in acing a poor United team. @Tranmerefanpage_ answered some questions concerning the team from Merseyside.
How would you sum up Tranmere Rovers’ style of play?
Our style of play is counter-attacking football, with fast wingers such as Blackett-Taylor who aims for our target striker Ferrier who has been on form this season.
Who is the key man Manchester United should be concerned about?
United should be wary of Paul Mullin as he has a great record in the FA cup and is a very good super sub.
What does drawing a club the size of Manchester United mean for you?
Drawing Manchester United in the FA Cup was huge. It benefits the club and community in so many ways and also is a great experience for the fans.
How confident are you going into the tie?
There isn’t really a fear factor, realistically it depends on what squad United put out and if they have included any starting players in the squad.
Prediction: I’m predicting a 2-2 draw because Tranmere’s ego will be high and also the pitch condition will have a great impact on the quality of the game in my opinion.
Key Stats: Tranmere Rovers vs Manchester UnitedEmbed from Getty Images
Manchester United have played Tranmere rovers twice in their history in any official capacity. The latest game between the two sides wasn’t played by the Manchester United first-team but the U23’s. The Red Devils were on the end of a 3-2 defeat in the EFL Trophy. Tahith Chong was on the scoresheet on that day.
Tranmere Rovers are a team that plays counter-attacking football, as expected on the harsh turf of Prenton Park and the expected rampant atmosphere it will be a tough fixture for Manchester United. I’m expecting a replay but of course, I’m hoping we toss Micky Melon’s team aside as we should.
