Is Saúl Ñíguez trolling United Fans?

25-year-old Spanish international Saul Ñíguez is a player many would be happy to see at United. So when the midfielder took to his social media to announce the release of his “new club” in what was 3 days, put many reds on high alert.

Born in Spanish town Elche, Saul is a product of Atlético Madrid’s famous academy, which blooded the likes of Torres and David De Gea. His versatility would make him a real asset at Manchester United. The Midfielder is able to play anywhere across the midfield line, at times playing as a defensive midfielder and also being the license to go forward make things happen in the final third.

Diego Simeone in the past has been rich in praise for his midfielder.

“Saul has all the conditions to be among the best midfielders in the world. He can shoot, pass, has rhythm, plays with his head.”

There is no doubting his actual quality.

But is Saul Ñíguez trolling United fans?

Saul in the past has said “ I don’t see myself outside Atletico; something very surprising would have to happen.” And when the Elche born Midfielder signed a 9-year contract to stay on the red side of Madrid in 2017 it all made sense.

The 25-year-old is supposedly an avid Manchester United fan and in the past has been seen liking social media posts related to United. So surely a move to Manchester wouldn’t be out of the question. However, the question has to be asked, why would a player that has been a part of the fabric at Atleti for so long, disrespect his club with a cryptic Twitter announcement. I know football has arguably lost its class but that would be a new low for the game.

Realistically, I would expect him to announce some sort of PR deal or Esports nonsense. The “new club” part seems like a ploy to drive up interest, and what better way to do that then lead Manchester United fans up the garden path. Just ask Antoine Griezmann!
