Manchester United FIFA 22 Ratings, Down The Wings MUFC

Every year, Manchester United fans across the world eagerly anticipate the release of the newest edition of FIFA. This year is no different, with many Reds fans in deep discussion over the FIFA 22 player ratings for Manchester United players.

With the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho in the Summer transfer window, there is plenty to discuss in regard to the Red Devils’ ratings, including some welcome upgrades and surprise downgrades.

Cristiano Ronaldo has dominated the headlines of late for his performances in a United shirt, but many have not forgotten the impeccable 36 goals in 44 appearances that he registered in Italy playing for Juventus last year. Therefore, it has come as a shock to many that the Portuguese superstar has been downgraded (91) from last year (92). Although, despite this unexpected downgrade, Ronaldo finds his rating joint highest in the Premier League with Belgian rival Kevin De Bruyne.

Interestingly, this isn’t the only shock FIFA 22 rating in the United camp. Jadon Sancho will be disappointed to see that he hasn’t been upgraded on his 87 rating, even though he racked up a sublime 36 goal involvements in all competitions in front of the Westfalenstadion fans last campaign. Another player who racked up 36 goal involvements last season was Marcus Rashford, and he will be similarly disappointed that he has failed improve on last year’s rating (85).

Aaron Wan Bissaka was a key part of a defence that finished 2nd in the Premier League last year, but the men behind the scenes at EA Sports felt that was not enough to elevate his 83 rating.

No United player rating has come as more of a shock than Mason Greenwood’s 78, however. Having not even turned 20-years-old yet, the Englishman has become the all-time top-scoring teenager for Manchester United in the Premier League, as well as a key face in Solskjaer’s starting side over the course of the last campaign. Greenwood is described by United fans and rival fans alike as a generational talent, but this was not enough for him to massively increase his rating for FIFA 22 from last year’s 77 rating. For context, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden have been rewarded with 80 and 84-rated figures respectively, perhaps connotating a wider issue of ignorance in mainstream football media.

Some of the more expected and understandable downgrades come in the form of Anthony Martial (81), Donny van de Beek (81) and Alex Telles (82). Whether it be through poor form or a lack of first-team minutes, each of these internationals will have few complaints about their depleted ratings.

In spite of these disappointing ones, isn’t all doom and gloom for United’s ratings by any means. Bruno Fernandes has been rewarded with an 88 rating for his quality performances in the infamous red and white colours, with teammate Paul Pogba also seeing his rating rise from 86 to 87 in this year’s edition of the ever-popular video game.

There was a unanimous feeling amongst the Old Trafford faithful that Luke Shaw had the best season of his Manchester United career last season, and that opinion has been reflected in his 84 rating, having increased from 81.

As is the case every year, the ratings are controversial. Discussion is generated year-in-year-out over whether EA have got it right or wrong. Are they doing Nemanja Matic a disservice with 36 pace? Probably not in fairness! Regardless of ratings, however, many FIFA players like myself are keenly looking forward to the release of the new game all across the world. To end on an optimistic note, I think I speak on behalf of every FIFA player when I say that I hope to see Cristiano Ronaldo prevailing from my Ultimate Team packs over the next 12 months!
