Manchester United Target Luka Jovic and Edinson Cavani

Cavani Jovic Manchester United

Manchester United have surprisingly begun their efforts to sign a striker in the final week of the transfer window. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, both Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic and free agent Edinson Cavani have spurred interest at Old Trafford.

The report suggests that in the coming days, as the window draws to a close, Manchester United will attempt to sign one of the two. The deal will see one of the forwards temporarily join Solskjaers side as Cavani’s age of 33 means there isn’t any real longevity in the deal. Any deal for the the Serbian Luka Jovic will be a loan deal from Madrid.

Luka Jovic’s time with Los Blancos has proved testing for the young striker. After leaving Frankfurt after the 18/19 season where he managed 27 goals and 6 assists, he hasn’t been able to truly establish himself as a “galactico”. In 27 appearances at Real Madrid last season the 22-year old only managed to contribute to 4 goals, across all competitions which has left him surplus to requirements for Zinedine Zidane.

At the other end of their journey as a striker is Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan found himself a free agent at the end of the 19/20 season as his injuries and age left PSG unwilling to offer him a new deal. However there is no doubting the 33-year-olds cutthroat ability in front of goal. Cavani featured in 22 games last season for the parisians contributing to 10 goals across all competitions.

There is no doubt that Anthony Martial could use some competition as the main centre forward at Manchester United. The dilemma for Solskjaer however is who he chooses. Perhaps Jovic? however, his record at Madrid, a club similar in stature to United could prove that his Frankfurt career was a flash in the pan. But there is no doubt age is on his side whereas Cavani, who’s won titles and can find the back of the net is at the end of his career, the move to the Premier League where he’s never played could prove to be a distasteful one.
