How do Manchester United Look?

United’s post-World Cup form has been sublime with the side picking five wins on the bounce. Their most recent fixture against Everton in the FA Cup Third Round saw the team run out 3-1 victors over The Toffees. The performance wasn’t as convincing as some of United’s previous outings. After a quick start that led to an Antony opener in the 4th minute, David De Gea had one of the howlers of the season letting the ball slip through his legs and allowing Conor Coady to nip in and equalise for Everton. The rest of the first half became a fast-paced back-and-forth affair with opportunities mainly coming in transition. Conor Coady would find himself on the scoresheet again in the second half but this time for knocking the ball into his own goal. Some fantastic work by Marcus Rashford down the left-hand side to beat Seamus Coleman before pulling the ball across the six-yard box led to Coady putting the ball into his own goal with his outstretched leg. Rashford continued his scoring streak converting a penalty in stoppage time, making it five games in a row the Mancunian has scored in.

Ten Hag may look to rotate his team slightly due to the quick turnaround from the Everton game and the weaker opposition but will still want to field a side strong enough to ensure the team qualify for the next round. This could mean potential starts for youngsters like Alejandro Garnacho and Zidane Iqbal as well as a chance for players on the fringes of the squad to get some minutes.

Donny van de Beek is out with an injury after a tough challenge against Bournemouth saw him substituted before half-time. Jadon Sancho will continue his individual training before being reintegrated back into the squad.

Opponents: Charlton Athletic

League One side Charlton will be looking to extend their run in the Carabao Cup with a win over United at Old Trafford. They currently sit 12th in the table and will hoping to make a magical run in the League Cup. The Addicks have recently turned their form around winning two games on the bounce after a winless run of eight games in the league.

Crystal Palace loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is one of the key players at Charlton and will be someone to look out for when they play United. The 20-year-old winger has six goals and two assists in the league so far this season and has had a largely successful loan spell to date, establishing himself as a key player for the club. Another player to look out for would be Scott Fraser. The all-action midfielder has five goals and four assists in the league so far this season and has been playing exceptionally well of late.

Key Stats

Marcus Rashford has scored in his last seven games at Old Trafford in all competitions

Prediction

United will be big favourites for this game and will be expected to continue their winning run with a victory here. The quality of the squad should be too strong for Charlton and The Reds should walk out comfortable winners. This is a huge match for The Addicks though and that cannot be understated, they will definitely come to win in hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the competition.
