Marcus Rashford has won Manchester United’s Player of the Month award for January 2023.
The forward has retained the award following his win in December of last year, carrying on a scintillating run of form into the new calendar year following the restart of club football after the World Cup in Qatar.
Rashford won 48% of the vote on the official club app, beating Casemiro (39%), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (9%) and Bruno Fernandes (4%).
He has scored in all but two games since the victory over Burnley in the Carabao Cup on December 21st, including match-winners away at Wolves and at home to Manchester City, as well as a lethal knuckleball away at the Emirates against league leaders Arsenal. Most recently, United’s no.10 scored a great solo goal in the first leg of the League Cup semi-finals against Nottingham Forest.
Such great form has seen the England international equal Dennis Violet’s 64-year-old club record of scoring in nine consecutive home matches for The Reds. Had it not been for VAR, he would have made it ten on the bounce and broke the record at home to Reading in the FA Cup fourth round last week.
Chronologically speaking, Rashford’s first of the month came at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League with a belter of a finish following a smart corner routine. After that, he was scoring in domestic competitions against Everton from the penalty spot (FA Cup) and Charlton Athletic, coming off the bench to score twice late on (Carabao Cup).
It was then back to the league, with the 25-year-old bagging the winning goal in the Manchester derby, as well as an opener at Arsenal one week later.
His solo strike at The City Ground capped off a stunning month for the winger, who has been a joy to watch for fans this campaign. He now has 18 goals for the season after only scoring 5 in the whole of the last campaign.
Rashford’s back-to-back coups in December and January follow other Reds who won the Player of the Month award this season. Lisandro Martinez (August), Christian Eriksen (September), Casemiro (October) and Alejandro Garnacho (November) are the other winners from this season so far.
Congratulations to Rashford and long may the scoring continue.
