Monday night. Old Trafford under the lights. 8 pm kick-off. The derby of the fallen giants, Manchester United vs Arsenal.

No matter the situations between the two juggernauts of English football, Manchester United vs Arsenal is and will remain one of the biggest fixtures in world football. The storyline of this game has changed from battling profusely for Premier League titles to now scrapping over fourth. However, that being said, there is no doubting that fans of the two clubs search for the fixture come their announcement in August.

An injury-ridden Manchester United come into this tie with confidence low. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed in his press conference that Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are set to miss the game entirely. To further compound our issues, Paul Pogba aggravated his injury after playing the full 90 minutes in midweek.

As well as Manchester United’s insurmountable injury tally, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has found themselves in a poor vein of form. Losses to West Ham and unconvincing victories against Astana and Rochdale in the cus has led to many to question Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s minerals. I personally think that this Arsenal game could make or break his Manchester United career. To be quite honest the injuries are unfortunate but the way we are playing, the buck always stops with the manager. A loss against Arsenal will leave us in mid-table. Is that a rebuild or a circus?

Arsenal had a great summer transfer window and many of their infamous fanbase felt they could spring a surprise this season. However, in reality, they are in the same boat as us.

Arsenal has one of the most terrifying attacks in the league but a defence that can be ridiculed by some Championship sides. In comparison, Manchester United have an excellent defence but a poor attack.

The key man for Arsenal in this game and this season is undoubtedly Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese striker has proved an effective goal scorer for Arsenal since his arrival. Aubameyang has averaged a goal a game this term so Lindelof and Maguire need to be on top form.

Key Manchester United VS Arsenal Stats

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 12 home games against Arsenal (Won 8 Drawn 4)
  • Last Arsenal win at Old Trafford came in September 2006
  • Arsenal have conceded at least twice in their last 4
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost his first game as Manchester United manager in the premier league against Arsenal in a 2-0 loss
  • Jesse Lingard has 4 goals in all competitions against Arsenal, more than he has against any other side

Monday night may be Arsenal’s best chance in a long while to get three points at Old Trafford with United’s injuries. However, Arsenal are Arsenal and seem to have a habit to just fold under any type of pressure. I personally predict an uninspiring draw with Jesse Lingard stealing the show with a half-decent performance. But for Ole’s sake, I hope we get a win and play the Gooners off the park.
