It seems as though Manchester United have fixtures coming out of their ears at the moment. After playing only 48 hours ago, the Reds take on Leicester City at Old Trafford.

United have secured a place in next season’s Champions League after West Ham were defeated at home at the hands of Everton. While United have very little to play for having already qualified for Europe’s elite competition, a loss would see Manchester City immediately crowned Champions.

How do Manchester United look?

The close succession of the games was always going to force the hand of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Changes and rotation are going to be central to United’s story against the Foxes.

Goal scorers at Villa Park, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes were both substituted with time to spare on Sunday afternoon which means the two are better placed to play a larger role against Leicester. Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba both featured for the full 90 so are unlikely to start for the full game especially with Rashford’s injury concerns.

United also suffered a Harry Maguire-sized injury blow as the captain was substituted after a collision with Anwar El Ghazi. The centre-back could miss United’s remaining league fixtures and there are doubts over his readiness for the final. However, we all know Maguire, his resilience is likely to take precedence meaning it won’t be a surprise to see him leading out his team soon.

Eric Bailly was the man who replaced the United captain so is probably likely to start at the back. Solskjaer also hinted at the involvement of some of United’s youth talent, name-checking Amad and Shola Shoretire. However, it remains unclear whether the pair will play in this fixture or against Liverpool.

Opposition: Leicester City

Leicester are in trouble. Brendan Rodgers’ Foxed could once again see their Champions League endeavours crushed. And with United holding the cards with their run-in, we could see the events of last season repeat themselves with the Reds playing a huge role.

The Foxes recently suffered defeat at the hands of Newcastle United who were 4-0 up at the King Power stadium before Marc Albrighton and Kelechi Iheanacho replied towards the end. Their recent form isn’t impressive, but they could smell blood with United’s hectic schedule.

Brendan Rodgers will have the imminent FA Cup final on his mind when picking his team, but with his side needing points, he faces a dilemma. Ex-Red Jonny Evans is set to be sidelined after an injury he sustained prior to the Newcastle game.

Since Leicester’s famous 5-3 victory over United in 2014, they have failed to beat the Red’s in the Premier League, having tried on 12 different occasions.

Solskjaer’s men could win five home Premier League games in succession for the first time since Jose Mourinho achieved the feat in March 2018.

Mason Greenwood has four in four at Old Trafford more than he had in his previous 22 at home. Conversely, in five starts against the Reds, danger man Iheanacho has been involved in five goals in all competitions.
