Match Preview : Newcastle United VS Manchester United
A trip to Tyneside awaits Manchester United as they take on struggling Newcastle side this weekend.
How do Manchester United Look?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are yet to register a win away from home since Paris St Germain in March. So this means Manchester United are without an away win in 10 games. United’s form at the moment is nothing short of woeful. Creativity seems to be deficient despite personnel and the desire to play forward has seemed to have dissipated. There is no doubting that Ole has a big job on his hands, trying to turn the situation around.
In terms of player availability, the Mail reported on Friday that Pogba is unlikely to play and Martial, Shaw and Wan Bissaka are all doubts. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a manager that seems to rely on individual brilliance in games seems to be losing his brilliant individuals. Our injuries probably translate as a worse current climate for supporters.
Opposition: Newcastle United
Embed from Getty ImagesSteve Bruce’s Newcastle are in big trouble in 19th after 7 games. Brucey’s appointment was uninspiring for Geordies and the football he’s yielded a not too dissimilar as the Magpie’s have failed to score more than one in any game this season. Which is funny because United haven’t put 2 past an opposition side since Chelsea on the opening weekend. Don’t be surprised if this one ends up 0-0…
Newcastle United have looked decent at times. They were unlucky to lose to Arsenal on the opening weekend and picked up three points on the road at Tottenham. If United are not careful, we may be staring down the barrel of an upset.
Goal scoring and keeping them out is Newcastle’s biggest weak area. Their big summer centre forward signing Joelinton is tied on goals with centre half Fabian Schär.In their previous game in the league Leicester City with Newcastle failing to register a single shot on goal. If that doesn’t spell absolute tap in of a fixture, I don’t know what does.
Key Stats: Newcastle VS Manchester United
- Manchester United have won 13 away Premier League games at Newcastle – they’ve only won more away at Aston Villa(15) and Everton(16).
- Manchester United winless in their last 7 away from home the only time they had a longer run without a win on the road was in 1989 (Feb-Sept). The run lasted for 11 games.
- Newcastle United have failed to win any of their opening 3 League home games.
- Steve Bruce has managed the most games against Manchester United without winning(21) Drawing 5 and losing 16.
- Excluding penalties, Marcus Rashford has scored 1/36 of his shots in the Premier League. His 1 goal in open play, came against Chelsea on the opening weekend.
The game this weekend may present itself as Ole’s best chance to begin to rectify our laughable away record. Newcastle are not a good side and Steve Bruce is one of the odds on managers to get the boot. If we don’t come away from Tyneside with maximum points, Ole’s fate will definitely be written.
