Match Review: Leicester City vs Manchester United

Manchester United secured a third place finish in the table with a vital 2-0 win over Leicester.
This game was a must win for United as in order to guarantee a third place finish they needed to over turn Leicester. This is the first time they’ve finished this high in the league since Jose Mourinho took them to second in the league. The win also proved a lot of pundits wrong about Ole’s side. Before the restart, not one pundit from Sky Sports, BT Sport or the Daily Mail had them to finish third, and only three predicted them to finish in the top four.
The game started slowly with United looking tired and rather lethargic at times. To get top four United only needed a point so you wonder if that was in the back of some players minds. Both sides had their chances, Marcus Rashford had an effort saved by Schmeichel and Vardy hit the bar after the break.
The first half was very possession based as both sides looked nervous as neither side made a significant impact on the game. The reds however came out fighting in the second half and went one up after a tackle from Jonny Evans brought down Martial as he broke through on goal. Bruno converted the penalty but that was about all he did in the game as he also seemed tired and a lot of his passes went astray.
Jonny Evans then finished the game early after receiving a red card for a horrible challenge on Scott McTominay.
Substitute, Jesse Lingard, then finished the game off in the 97th minute, which broke his goal and assist drought for the season. It came from a mistake by Schmeichel which was tapped in by the Englishman.
The result combined with Chelsea’s win at Wolves means that United finish third and Chelsea fourth. Leicester crashed out of top four and landed into the Europa League for next season and Jamie Vardy landed himself the golden boot despite not scoring in the game. The game provided a fantastic come back for United after being 14 points adrift of Leicester in February.
United now look towards the Europa league as the pressure is off and the hopes of a trophy to cap off a great season.
