Match Review: Manchester United 1-2 Leicester City

Leicester City take all three points at Old Trafford against a much-changed Manchester United side. United’s loss means Manchester City have been crowned Premier League Champions.

Solskjaer made 10 changes to the team that won at Villa Park; with David de Gea, Brandon Williams, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, Alex Telles, Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek, Amad Diallo, Juan Mata, Anthony Elanga coming into a changed Manchester United side. While Mason Greenwood reverts as the lone striker. 

How it went down

The first half saw Luke Thomas’ magnificent first Premier League goal rocket past David de Gea within the opening 10 minutes where United were dominating in spells with quick intricate play.

Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 10 changes his makeshift United side hit back five minutes later as Mason Greenwood continued his red-hot form with an instinctive equaliser. 

Leicester improved drastically in the second period and deservedly regained the lead through Çağlar Söyüncü’s towering header, as a result of the Reds’ inadequacies being exploited yet again through poor marking and decision making in the zonal marking of the corner. Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes were introduced but there was no way back for the Red Devils to revive a loss into a positive outcome.

United’s defeat confirms rivals Manchester City’s third Premier League title in four seasons, the fifth PL title in their history.

Next up for Solskjaer and United is Klopp’s Liverpool at Old Trafford on Thursday night, knowing that a good result will prevent them from qualifying for the CL.
