Match Review: Manchester United vs FK Partizan
Manchester United beat Partizan Belgrade 3-0 in a win that sees the Red Devils through to the Europa League knock out stages.
Magic Martial Mata Connection
Manchester United needed 3 points in order to reach the Europa League Round of 32 with 2 games to spare in the group. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s boys definitely came out the blocks with a win in mind.
Ole opted for a stronger more experienced side in order to secure qualification into the next round. The likes of Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo coming into the team was complimented by the youthful exuberance of Mason Greenwood. Many fans before the game questioned why Fred and McTominay in midfield along with Aaron Wan Bissaka, Maguire and Rashford were starting their 4th consecutive game. I was one of them, surely continuous fielding of the same team would lead to our injury problems worsening. However it was clear to see by selecting some of the older heads, Ole’s intention was to kill the game and ensure Manchester United’s progression.
Against relatively poor opposition, you expect chances, especially at Old Trafford. And to be fair to the boys today, chances are what we did get. As a result of our early probing and pressurising the Partizan back line, Greenwood was able to get through on the right hand side and score a well taken goal. Only just 18…
Martial and Mata on the field at the same time really does take you back to some of the better times under LVG. The football we played when we were in good form with those two in the side was orgasmic at times. We saw shades of that today, the subtle touches and flicks towards each other were brilliant, especially when the fed in Rashford and Greenwood. I know Juan Mata probably isn’t good enough to play in the Premier League regularly but just let me have this moment ok!
Manchester United Still Yet To Concede
An excellent piece of individual brilliance and footwork saw Manchester United slot away another goal and go in 2-0 at the break.
In the second half, changes were needed. With Scott Mctominay, Fred, Maguire, AWB, and Rashford all playing a lot of football in recent weeks it was important that the second half as managed correctly to avoid any knocks and muscular strain injuries.
Fred had a good game tonight, he played his role today with tencity and high intensity when winning the ball back, recycling it and moving it quickly into the final third. He was rightly taken off to bring on the young James Garner who filled the role competently.
Minutes Rashford hammered home the third and we were in cruise control, Scott Mctominay went down with a knock as he ‘went over in his ankle’ according to Ole himself.
The match finished 3-0 to Manchester United. With results like this it’s important we build on them, the opposition was sub par but but offensively the performance was encouraging.
