Match Review: Manchester United vs Sheffield United
United continued their unbeaten run, which has now reached thirteen games, after another impressive display against Sheffield United. Within the thirteen games, United have also kept ten clean sheets, and it is now Ole’s longest time he has gone unbeaten at United. The superb display from the Red’s allowed them to blitz the Blades 3-0, now moving them five points in front of their opponents and in touching distance of the top four.
United came out of the blocks firing, with the first goal in the league that came in the opening ten minutes, since the restart. Martial scored all three goals for the Reds putting his total for the season up to nineteen, which is his biggest return since his five year tenure at Manchester United started and the reds’ hattrick was also the first since Robin Van Persie’s seven years ago. Martial is clearly benefitting from the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and the return of Paul Pogba in midfield to provide the attacking creativity he needs to be able to finish.
Sheffield United didn’t really muster any kind of attacking threat to Manchester United as the Reds comfortably controlled the game throughout. Marcus Rashford had numerous glorious chances that he failed to put away in the first half.
With United looking strong moving into the final stretch of the season, Ole claims to be aiming for third, as stated in his post-match interview. With the run of games United have this is more than achievable. United and Wolves have arguably the easiest run in, in comparison to the other sides fighting for top four (Tottenham, Chelsea and Leicester), so the aim for third is definitely in the eyeline of the Norwegian manager.
