Match Review: PSG vs Manchester United

Manchester United again came out victorious with a 2-1 win, after a well deserved result at the Parc Des Princes.

It was a game where pretty much everything went right for the reds and it was the first time PSG lost a home game in the group stages since 2004. They were set up well, and the performance was reflected in the result.

Ole’s side started the first half very well creating numerous chances to go one nil up. The opportunity came from yet another penalty incident when Anthony Martial was brought down. Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty and missed for a consecutive time, however when reviewed by VAR, it was forced to be retaken as Navas was off his line.

Bruno was given a second chance and this time covered the spot kick to put Manchester United one nil up.

The French champions were far stronger in the second half forcing numerous saves from David De Gea who seemed to tap into his old form during the game. Axel Tuanzebe, who played for the first time in 18 months, and Aaron Wan Bissaka both put in stellar performances in the second half, nullifying any attempt Mbappe or Neymar had to offer.

However, there was only so much time United could hang on for. A corner by Neymar was put into the back of the net by Martial for an own goal in the 55th minute.

It looked an almost guarantee that the two sides were going to share the points, when Rashford collected a pass from the substitute Paul Pogba, and hit a beautiful strike that hit the post and went in from more than 20 yards out.

Just 18 months on from United great comeback in the Champions League two seasons ago, Marcus Rashford won the game yet again in Paris and sealed the three points.

Ole got it all right in France, he started with a back five without skipper Harry Maguire, which worked well going forward in the first half. Tuchel’s side started to get on top in the second half when Di Maria was moved deeper and ex Everton player Moise Kean came on further forward, but Ole then shifted to a back four bringing off debutant Alex Telles, who also looked excellent for United, which stabilised any efforts made from the French side.

Yet again United are starting to play well when their backs against the wall, but the question has to be raised, is this sustainable? In order to improve and develop, United have to find their consistency, and with a big few games coming up against Chelsea, Arsenal and RB Leipzig, I’m sure this question will be answered in the very near future. They still have the return of Maguire, Mason Greenwood and the debut of Cavani to come, so you would hope its a continued progress from here.
