Edinson Cavani came off the bench for Manchester United to score a brace in a stunning comeback in the final 45 minutes of the game.

United hadn’t played that badly before Cavani’s introduction but had simply failed to take advantage of any opportunities that had come their way.

James Ward Prowse controlled the first half for Southampton, as he took the corner that put the Saints one up at St Mary’s. A 23rd minute corner was drilled into the near post and met by the head of Jan Bednarek.

The Englishman then put Southampton two up after a magnificent freekick just ten minutes later. The set piece couldnt be kept out by United goalkeeper, David De Gea, as he injured himself in the process of trying to do so.

Ole made a double substitution as the Red’s came out for the second half. The injured David De Gea came on for Dean Henderson and the quiet Mason Greenwood was replaced by Cavani.

A wonderful cross by the 33 year old was met by Bruno Fernandes to give United a life line just before the hour mark.

The goal gave United a clear boost in confidence as every time they went forward it looked like they could score, and that they did.

Bruno later returned the favour as his deflected shot was met by the head of Cavani with a beautiful diving header just 16 minutes from time.

The game entered injury time level with United pushing on to get a winner, when Marcus Rashford’s cross was again met by the head of the Uruguayan to win the game for the Red’s.

This is now United’s eighth straight away win which is a new club record and they become the first side in Premier league history to win four consecutive away games despite trailing in each.

Ole’s Manchester United side now look forward to Wednesday night when the French champions, PSG return to Old Trafford for the Champions League group stage, a game in which they only need a point from to qualify for the last 16.
