Match Review : Wolves VS Manchester United
Manchester United fail once again to secure maximum points at Molinuex. In the end the 1-1 result was a fair reflection of the game in all honesty, a dominant first half followed by a second where we had no answeres in front of goal. Everything seemed like it was going tom plan for us with Anthony Martial continuing his blazing form but an absolute wonder strike from the portuguese Paul Scholes, Ruben Neves took the points away from us after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men rode their luck as Raul Jimenez’ header ricocheted of the post.
Player Ratings
David De Gea : 6
Might as well have pulled out a lawn chair and a newspaper. Wolves did what Wolves do best and sat back and absorbed pressure. De Gea comes off the pitch today with clean gloves, zero blame for the goal, pure quality from Ruben Neves.
Aaron Wan Bissaka : 8
Had an all round steady game put in some great tackles as per usual, was unlucky not to get an assist. Wan Bissaka got forward and was solid on his side down the right. If not for a certain Frenchman would have been my man of the match!
Victor Lindelof : 6
Similar to De Gea in that he really had nothing to do. Lindelof is the type of defender who it’s easy to forget their on the pitch when the team isn’t being put on the back foot. Steady performance from the Swede.
Harry Maguire : 7
Like Lindelof , Maguire was not threatened at all offensively. However, something I’m sure all Manchester United fans would have appreciated was his presence in the box, almost like his head has a gravitational pull of its own. An absolute juggernaut at the back.
Luke Shaw : 6
Started the game brilliantly and was one of the performers of the half, his role in the Manchester United goal will likely be underappreciated but without him pulling the defenders atteention in the move, no Martial goal. Gave Shaw an average score because in all honesty Adama Traore bullied him when he came on. To be fair he is a pacy specimen of a man would bully most full backs!
Scott McTominay : 6
Not one of Scott’s best performances in a Manchester United shirt misplaced a lot of passes on the transition that may have cost us a few chances. Always showed for the ball but his inexperience was perhaps exposed.
Paul Pogba : 6
A bit like everyone else really, looked really sharp and up for it in the first half and by the end of the second seemed to go missing in action. Showed us al his fantastic footwork as he skipped past Connor Coady to win a penalty which he took and ended up missing. In my opinion had every right to claim the penalty clerly no assigned taker and thats on the coaching staff. However again nights like these when you really need more from Paul creatively.
Jesse Lingard : 5
Poor game from Jesse. He was likely in our midfield to be the guy that maintains the tempo by passing and moving quickly and uzzing off the forward three in pure Lingard fashion. We needed creativity from him today and we didn’t get it. We created very few chances today and that has to be down to himself and Paul, however Lingard managed to miss two of the opportunities created by Aaron Wan Bissaka which at thee time would have killed the game. Poor showing.
Daniel James : 6
Subject to some boos from the Wolverhampton crowd after he was booked, rather unfairly by Jon Moss for a perceived dive early on in the first half, the 21-year-old didn’t really look as confident on the ball as he has done previously. I feel he was deprived of protection from the officials today which i think comes part and parcel with the Premier League and hopefully he learns from it. Put in a number of unsuccesful crosses and really should have been subbed earlier. hopefully he can learn from this one.
Anthony Martial : 8*
For me Martial was the best player on the pitch, deadly movement and I feel his performance was hindered by a lack of creativity from the midfield. I like the way he’s bringing in that nasty strikers finisht that Ole talks about so often. Hopefully his form can continue, my fantasy team needs him!!
Marcus Rashford : 6
Suffered for the lack of creativity but all in all did not tep a foot wrong for me, managed to get himself an assist. I would like to see him be more demanding of the penalty but I’m sure that will come with age.
*Juan Mata 6 Mason Greenwood n/a Andreas Pereira n/a
In the grand scheme of things despite leading and and the feeling of two points dropped, a point away at Wolves is not the end of the world as we will see as the season progresses. Manchester United have work to do, better that we have had this minor set back now so we can achieve a mojor comeback. Onto the next one !!!!
