AC Milan 0-1 Manchester United (1-2) | Europa League RO16 2nd Leg | Player Ratings

Dean Henderson: 7

Last week, the England goalkeeper received his fair share of criticism for his over extravagant attempt to make a save last week. Today, a similar situation and Dean Henderson pulled off an incredible stop to maintain United’s much needed clean sheet.

Defence

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6

The flanks were United’s best chance of creating chances so there was a huge emphasis on the wide players. Unfortunately, Wan-Bissaka’s lack of technical ability showed once again going forward. The right-back was, however, stronger defensively.

Victor Lindelof: 8

Lindelof was sensational. Not only did he pull off some crucial last-ditch blocks and tackles the Swede provided impetus going forward with some penetrative runs beyond the midfield.

Harry Maguire: 8

The Captain has very much lived up to that role in recent weeks, another dominant display at the back. A lot was made of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s presence pre-match, Maguire kept him quiet.

Luke Shaw: 6

The left-back didn’t look as assured as he has been in recent weeks. He gave away some unnecessary fouls but still did do some positive work going forward.

Midfield

Scott McTominay: 5

In the first half, the Scottish international was swamped meaning his touches were heavy in possession and his passes weren’t better in terms of quality. In the second half, his performance grew.

Fred: 5

A similar performance to McTominay but Fred had a greater hand in the goal, providing an assist for Paul Pogba.

Bruno Fernandes: 6

Fernandes’ performance also went to new heights with the introduction of Paul Pogba at half time. In the first half, he played a number of loose and hopeful passes. In the second he tidied up his game.

Attack

Daniel James: 6

What we’ve seen with Daniel James is what you get: the effort to run in behind and trackback. But his final ball let him down today, the Welshman had a number of opportunities to set up goals but just lacked quality in the final third.

Mason Greenwood: 6

Greenwood struggled to impact the game due to a lack of any real chances.

Marcus Rashford: 5

Was withdrawn at half time due to injury. Before that Rashford didn’t really get into the game.

Substitutes

Paul Labile Pogba: 9

As soon as he was introduced on that left-hand side his quality lifted his teammates and that’s what the true world-class players do. He was the difference between United going out and proceeding into the next round.
