Player Ratings: Aston Villa 1-3 Manchester United

Manchester United set a new Premier League record after coming from behind for the 10th time this season.

After a strong start, the Reds were shocked by an excellent Bertrand Traore strike early in the first half. In the second in typical fashion, with goals from Bruno Fernandes, Greenwood and Cavani off the bench, United completed another comeback.

Here is how each player performed along with a rating out of 10:

Dean Henderson: 6

United’s English goalkeeper had very little to do for the whole game apart from a number of sweeping actions. There was very little Henderson could do for Aston Villa’s opener.

Defence

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 8

A superb effort from Wan-Bissaka for the full 90. The right-back was up and down contributing to the best of his ability, providing an outlet on the right-hand side. His blocks in the box were of grave importance to securing the three points.

Victor Lindelof: 4

Lindelof’s frailties were on display once again as the centre-back was outfought by Traore who just showed more desire to take the ball and score. Lindelof’s vulnerability physically showed on a number of other occasions going up against Watkins and Davis in the second half.

Harry Maguire: 7

The captain’s 72 game Premier League record has come to an end due to an injury. However, his performance showed why he’s so important to the side. His clearances and vocal leadership went a long way to bringing home the points.

Luke Shaw: 7

Luke Shaw was a constant threat to Villa’s right-hand side. From the off, he was direct and relentless in his runs going forward. Another top performance.

Midfield

Scott McTominay: 5

A disappointing start to the game from the Scottish international. He was caught in possession a number of times and gave away some silly fouls. As United grew a stronger foothold in the game in the second half as did McTominay.

Fred: 6

A similar showing to his defensive midfield counterpart McTominay but he was overall a lot cleaner in his defensive play as well as his passes forward.

Bruno Fernandes: 7

A slow start from the Portuguese Magnifico also, however, he took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second and his intensity spread to his teammates and his penalty catalysed United’s comeback.

Paul Pogba: 7

Pogba started the game quite brightly in some promising positions but just lacked quality in his final ball. The Frenchman’s hold-up play earned United a penalty.

Attack

Mason Greenwood: 8

Greenwood is another that looked bright all afternoon but just didn’t get himself an inch to get a goal. His goal showed why he will become a striker, his instinct to roll Mings and finish into the near post was sensational.

Marcus Rashford: 6

Rashford showed flashes of quality but seemed to pick up another injury that seemed to dull his performance. The forward did however assist the third.
