Player Ratings: Aston Villa vs Manchester United

Aston Villa vs Manchester United 0-3 | Premier League| Player Ratings
David De Gea: 6
Despite a bright start from Aston Villa, David de Gea perhaps not a ‘lawn chair newspaper’ considering conditions, but de Gea certainly had a ‘cup of tea’ kind of game.
Defence
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 4
Perhaps Wan Bissaka’s poorest display in a Manchester United shirt. He looked overwhelmed by the constant pressure with the high balls from Villa. The right back also gave away a cheap foul which earned him a yellow. What really summed up his night was his missed sitter at the far post, disappointing.
Victor Lindelöf: 6
An a average performance from the Iceman, looked shaky at some points but was solid overall. His distribution from deep went along way into forcing attacks though.
Harry Maguire: 6
Like Lindelof, some shakiness at times but was had a decent showing at the back.
Luke Shaw: 5
Luke wasn’t great today, just like his full back counterpart AWB. I felt he could’ve done more in terms of closing down and getting out to his man quicker. Wasn’t a terrible game from Shaw but he was definitely one of the wearker performers.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic: 7
Positively involved in a lot today, both offensively and defensively. The Serb’s form is continuing after a well deserved contract was announced recently. Perhaps something that’s gone unnoticed is his knack to drop into the centre backs and provide defensive security. That is precisely why he is one of our most important players.
Paul Pogba: 8
Paul Pogba’s disciplined performances have been limited to his goal and assist drought by rivals. For that reason I was happy to see him get his goal. But his performance today was one that is best described as tidy. Pivotal to everything we did positive today.
Bruno Fernandes: 7
Not a great game from our Portuguese magnifico but the best player’s don’t play well every game. The best are differentiated by their ability to affect the game when not playing well. Bruno was involved in a controversial penalty decision but still calmly slotted it away.
Attack
Marcus Rashford: 6.5
Unlucky not to have a couple, Marcus Rashford has an okay game. He’s gaining his arch sharpness but for me the presence he had before his injury has faded. I’m not sure whether it’s a lack confidence or sharing the mantle but he’s not the same. Need the Marcus Rashford that had shades of Cristiano in him back!
Mason Greenwood: 8.5
Talking about a lack of presence, Mason Greenwood has presence. Every time he gets the ball he just looks like he’s going to do something. The best compliment I can give him is that it looks like he’s not trying. He arrowed the ball in with his right foot, which basically earned us the point by deflating Aston Villa.
Anthony Martial: 7
Another bright showing for the Frenchman. We can talk about Greenwood’s finish till the cows come home but his goal doesn’t happen without Martial showing grit and determination. Strikers don’t score every game and he was disappointed he didn’t but he should hold his head high after making our win possible.
