Manchester United have beaten Brighton Hove and Albion 7-6 on penalties at Wembley, advancing to the final of the FA Cup where they have the chance to prevent a potential Manchester City treble.  The game was an evenly matched battle with Brighton having the majority of possession but United being able to launch some good counterattacks. After 120 minutes with nothing to separate the sides, it went to penalties where United’s experience shined as Solly March missed his penalty in sudden death and Victor Lindelof punished him for it.

Here’s a rundown on how the players performed in the game with each player receiving a rating out of 10.

Goalkeeper and Defence

David de Gea: 7

Denied Alexis Mac Allister’s early free-kick and made important saves to deny Enciso and March. Overall managed to do his job, keeping a clean sheet and United in the game. He did struggle in the penalty shootout though, failing to make a save.

Aaron Wan Bissaka: 7.5

Was busy on the right-hand side but he had a great performance keeping the skillful dribbler Karou Mitoma quiet.

Victor Lindelof: 7

Lindelof had a calm composed performance under the pressure of the game, kept a clean sheet and scored the winning penalty in the shootout.

Luke Shaw: 7

Slotted into the CB position seamlessly alongside Lindelof and showed his versatility and class.

Diogo Dalot: 6

Was quiet today but didn’t do too much wrong, helped the defence out when needed but could’ve done better going forward.

Midfield

Christian Eriksen: 5

Eriksen wasn’t good enough today, didn’t have the aggression or energy to keep up with Caicedo or MacAllister and wasn’t as effective as usual when United were in possession.

Casemiro: 6

Nothing that good or that bad from Casemiro in this match, could’ve been better with his passing but helped United battle in the midfield. Showed his leadership by scoring the first penalty for United in the shootout.

Bruno Fernandes: 6

Was a driving force for United’s attacks but his poor decision-making and passing in the final third let him down.

Antony: 6

Provided energy on and off the ball but was largely ineffective. Managed to draw a couple of saves from Robert Sanchez though.

Marcus Rashford: 6

A poor performance from Rashford. He did pose a threat in attack and on counters, but his poor final ball meant that United couldn’t capitalise. Did well to put away his penalty.

Anthony Martial: 5

A poor performance from Martial, was unable to make his presence felt. Often had to drop deep to get on the ball but simply wasn’t good enough today.

Substitutes

Jadon Sancho: 6

Fred: 6

Marcel Sabitzer: 6

Tyrell Malacia: 5

Wout Weghorst: 6
