Player Ratings: Brighton 1-0 Manchester United

Manchester United have been beaten by Brighton Hove and Albion 1-0 away at the Amex Stadium, continuing their poor away form against the Premier League top 10. The loss also halts United’s push for top 4 as they slip behind Newcastle into 4th with Liverpool only 4 points behind them with 1 more game played. The game was pretty evenly matched with both teams failing to put away chances until Luke Shaw carelessly gave away a penalty in the 95th minute which Alexis MacAllister slotted away.
Here’s a rundown on how the players performed in the game with each player receiving a rating out of 10.
Goalkeeper and Defence
David de Gea: 6.5
Made some great saves throughout the game which kept the scoreline level but questions must still be asked of his distribution, the tendency to always go for long balls limited United’s movement and ability to keep possession.
Aaron Wan Bissaka: 6.5
Was kept busy by Mitoma on the right-hand side but he had a mostly positive performance, managing to keep Mitoma from affecting the game.
Victor Lindelof: 7
Lindelof had a decent showing in the match as has been the case since he’s been consistently starting.
Luke Shaw: 6
Luke Shaw actually had a very good game today once again displaying his class at CB but a careless arm in the air ultimately meant that United lost this game.
Diogo Dalot: 6
Dalot had an average performance, was unable to really impose himself of the game going forward and had a couple defensive lapses in concentration.
Midfield
Fred: 5
The best way to describe Fred’s performance would be inconsistent. There were moments when his tenacity and energy helped United win the ball in midfield or drive forward but his poor technical ability and sloppiness in possession hurt United today.
Casemiro: 6
Casemiro was another inconsistent performer today. His tackles were either well timed and won us back or the ball or reckless which resulting in him being shown a yellow card late in the first half. His passing was decent today, but he is desperately crying out for a press resistant partner.
Bruno Fernandes: 6
Bruno just wasn’t able to make an impact on the game. He didn’t do too much wrong but ultimately he wasn’t able to make his presence known either.
Attack
Antony: 6
Should’ve scored early on and this missed chance ultimately haunted United. Poor decision making on the counter saw attacks fizzle out. All in all, a frustrating performance.
Marcus Rashford: 6.5
Not a terrible performance from Rashford today who had good linkup play and posed a threat on the right but wasn’t able to get into his usual goalscoring positions.
Anthony Martial: 5
Martial was disappointingly poor today, both on and off the ball. Squandered his best chance at goal and was often under hitting passes when United were on the attack.
