Player Ratings: Burnley 1-1 Manchester United

Burnley 1-1 Manchester United | Premier League
Despite a promising first-half display, Manchester United drop points at turf moor denting their top-four hopes
For the second time in four days, United have failed to hold onto a lead resulting in a negative outcome. United started brightly with Raphael Varane getting on the end of a set-piece to score what he thought was an opener. Unfortunately, more VAR controversy worked against United meaning it was chalked off as Harry Maguire offside and interfering with play. Not long after that though, Paul Pogba put United in the lead after some more positive play from the Reds. The first half performance was stellar.
The second half saw United concede control and not long after conceding a goal following some poor defending. The Reds failed to respond and had to settle for dropped points on a rainy Tuesday night.
Here’s how each player performed with a rating out of 10:
Goalkeeper and defence

David made an excellent save, preventing United from conceding another goal.
Luke Shaw: 6
Shaw did very well to get an assist and played well overall – bombing up and down the wing and promisingly combining with Jadon Sancho.
Harry Maguire: 4
Maguire was arguably at fault for Burnley’s goal and was poor overall. He lacked the assurance we should have in a centre-back let alone a captain.
Diogo Dalot: 7
Dalot was top class today. His offensive and defensive work rate was superb. His crossing seems to need some work as he’s more than willing to cross but the accuracy was sometimes lacking.
Midfield

Fairly average performance from the Scottish international. He did well to break up play at times but was easily eluded during other spells
Paul Pogba: 7
Pogba was excellent and appears to be the glue in United’s midfield his goal was well taken and one of United’s positives on the night.
Bruno Fernandes: 6
Bruno was okay. However, he didn’t impact the game as much as we would like and as the game went on he began descending to his petty little habits on the ball like shooting from improbable areas.
Attack

Rashford made a few good runs but was far from his best.
Edison Cavani: 5
Cavani had little to no effect on the match after the 30-minute mark.
Jadon Sancho: 8
Sancho is really finding his form in a United shirt. He looks to be finally settling into the team and has established himself as a first-teamer. Sancho’s confidence is there for all to see as recently he has seemed more willing to beat his man and make things happen.
Substitutes
Anthony Elanga: 6
Elanga played well but didn’t really have the time to get into 2nd gear.
Jesse Lingard: 5
Lingard made no significant impact.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 5
Ronaldo didn’t do enough to change the game.
