Barring a few half chances the Spaniard had very little to do in goal.

Defence

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6

The right-back didn’t put a foot wrong but also didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. Although Wan-Bissaka dealt with the threat of Kennedy well.

Victor Lindelof: 8

Following an uninspiring performance against Brighton, the Swede stepped up to be counted today. His lofted pass to Rashford is the piece of brilliance that put the tie in United’s favour. Defensively, his blocks and tackles were key when keeping the clean sheet.

Harry Maguire: 7

United’s captain supplemented Lindelof’s performance well also cleaning up at the back. Maguire almost chipped in with a goal with a dribble and body feint that Lionel Messi would be proud of.

Luke Shaw: 5

Gave away a number of silly fouls which resulted in the left-back having to miss the second leg.

Midfield

Scott McTominay: 6

McTominay failed to dominate the midfield. He didn’t really get on the ball enough to ensure Manchester United could continue to maintain pressure.

Paul Pogba: 6

Pogba contributed to United’s lacklustre tempo. He could be seen dithering in possession and was caught out a lot because of that.

Bruno Fernandes: 7

Bruno Fernandes was another one that was drifting around the midfield as per and was slow on the ball. The Portuguese international also misplaced a number of passes but scored United’s second with a penalty which probably put the tie to bed.

Marcus Rashford: 8

Rashford’s fitness was a huge cause for concern prior to the game and those concerns grew within the first few minutes where he could be seen clutching his ankle. His injury didn’t phase him though as his touch and finish to open up the tie was sensational, and it wasn’t for the first time either.

Mason Greenwood: 5

Greenwood’s performance was a disappointing one. His touch was heavy and he lost possession on a number of occasions. He didn’t get many chances to put the ball into the back of the net but his first touch and link-up play didn’t help.

Daniel James: 6

Provided a constant outlet and constant threat down the flanks but the final ball was lacking in quality.
