Player Ratings: Leeds United 2-4 Manchester United

Manchester United claim victory in a thrilling encounter against bitter rivals Leeds United.

United of Manchester started the game on the front foot but the underlying feeling of anything being possible at a wet Elland Road was felt by anyone lucky to watch the game. The unthinkable happened just after the half an hour mark where the Reds converted from a corner. For the first time, this season Harry Maguire was able to get on the end of a set-piece and score. That deserved accolades in itself as the embarrassing stat has been quashed after 138 attempts.

United’s second came as the caverns of space allowed an eager Victor Lindelof a run at the Leeds defence and find Sancho who floated the ball into Bruno Fernandes for the second. United went into the break 2-0 to the good but eight minutes into the second the score was 2-2. However, Ralf Rangnick made a couple of changes with the two substitutes scoring to win United the game. Manchester United of course.

Here’s how each player performed with a rating out of 10:

Goalkeeper and Defence

David De Gea: 6

De Gea made a couple of important saves but ultimately had very little to do. He could’ve potentially done better with Leeds’ first goal.

Luke Shaw: 6

Shaw registered an assist with an excellent corner delivery. The left-back also kept Daniel James’ threat to a minimum so deserves some plaudits for his performance today.

Harry Maguire: 7

Really solid Captain’s performance from Maguire topped off with a great headed goal. Long may these performances continue.

Victor Lindelof: 8

Another outstanding performance from Lindelof. He wasn’t at fault for either goal and To add, he did very well in carrying the ball out from the back, playing an important part in United’s second goal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6

This was a good performance from Wan-Bissaka. He defended relatively well and contributed down the right side although he was found out of position for Leeds’ first.

Midfield

Scott Mctominay: 7

Mctominay put in a real shift today, especially in the second half. He broke up the play very well and made some good attacking runs.

Paul Pogba: 7

Pogba created some vital chances for United today. His skill and athleticism shone through.

Bruno Fernandes: 8

Bruno bagged a header and also assisted towards the end with a great piece of skill Elanga at the end of the game. Another top performance.

Attack

Jadon Sancho: 9

This is arguably Sancho’s best performance. He grabbed two assists and was electric down the wings. He is slowly growing into a key player for United. Man of the match.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 5

Ronaldo had a limited impact and couldn’t really get into the game.

Jesse Lingard: 5

Lingard also didn’t impact the game and was ultimately substituted.

Substitutes

Anthony Elanga: 7

Elanga scored a good goal and made a significant impact upon coming on.

Fred: 7

Fred changed the course of the game in United’s favour. He scored a top-class goal and used his tenacious energy to break up play in the midfield

Raphael Varane: 5

Varane wasn’t on the pitch long enough to make a difference.
