Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa
Manchester United have beaten Aston Villa 1-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League and have inched ever closer to securing Champions League football for next season. The game saw Manchester take the lead in the first half via Bruno Fernandes with the second half seeing United defend well to keep a clean sheet. The Reds admittedly should’ve put the game to bed with the chances they had in the first half but still managed to pull off the win.
Here’s a rundown on how the players performed in the game with each player receiving a rating out of 10.
Goalkeeper and Defence
David de Gea: 6
Kept a clean sheet bringing him closer to the Golden Glove award but didn’t have much to do in the game.
Diogo Dalot: 6.5
Was busy on the right-hand side on both ends, helping United mount attacks but pitching in defensively too.
Victor Lindelof: 8
Lindelof continues to show his class, his calmness on the ball and reading of the game helped United keep a clean sheet as well as his goal-line clearance to deny Aston Villa an equaliser.
Luke Shaw: 7
Another solid showing at the back from Shaw continues to show his class at center back keeping his unbeaten this season in the CB position.
Tyrell Malacia: 6
A better performance from Malacia than we’ve seen in recent weeks. Solid defensively but could improve going forward
Midfield
Christian Eriksen: 6
Eriksen kept possession for United and was part of mounting attacks in the final third but often his final ball wasn’t good enough.
Casemiro: 7
It seems like Casemiro is getting back to his best as a vital part of Manchester United’s performances this season, helped win the midfield battle and was unlucky not to score in the first half, instead hitting the crossbar.
Bruno Fernandes: 7.5
United’s best player. Took his goal well and was lively in the midfield and final third, driving United forward the whole game.
Marcel Sabitzer: 6
A decent performance from the Austrian, another lively player but misplaced a few key passes here and there. Overall didn’t do too much wrong though.
Attack
Marcus Rashford: 6
A disappointing performance from Rashford today. He did pose a threat in the final third, stretching the Villa defence, and had some good link-up play but missed too many chances.
Jadon Sancho: 6.5
A solid performance from Sancho, he drove United forward and was good on the ball too. Could’ve released the ball quicker in some instances and needed to shoot more though.
