Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-0 Brentford
Manchester United beat Brentford with a 1-0 result at Old Trafford. The result places Manchester United into the top 4 spots after Tottenham had pushed them out following their draw against Everton on Monday. The game also stands after their first premier league win since lifting the Carabao Cup in February. As the April games start gearing up, with little rest in between games, it was pivotal that United got the result and a bit of revenger after Brentford hammered them 4-0 in the second game of the season.
Here’s a rundown on how the players performed with each player receiving a rating out of 10.
Goalkeeper and Defence
David de Gea: 7
The Spaniard’s distribution looked to have improved since the Newcastle game but there were still a few nervy moments including Ivan Toney nearly forcing the ball back into the United but ultimately going wide. De Gea also made some great saves to keep the clean sheet.
Diogo Dalot: 7
A very much improved performance following Newcastle game for Dalot. He was solid going forward in attack and was much better defensively.
Raphael Varane: 6.5
Not a terrible game from Varane, he made some solid tackles and passes but was beaten too easily a couple times by the Brentford attackers.
Lisandro Martinez: 7.5
Another good performance from the ever reliable Martinez, was great on the ball as usual, made some important tackles and kept Ivan Toney quiet for most of the game.
Luke Shaw: 6
Looked lively on the left-hand side but came off before half time with a knock for with Tyrell Malacia coming in for him.
Midfield
Marcel Sabitzer: 7.5
Played much higher up the pitch than usual and thus was heavily involved going forward. His header to assist Rashford was well taken.
Scott McTominay: 7
Was a nuisance for Brentford in midfield withs some needed tackles and well-timed interceptions in the game. A simple but gritty performance from him.
Bruno Fernandes: 7.5
Bruno was much better today. He played deeper than usual but calm composed passing and getting stuck in defensively showed a maturity to his game that many fans know is there but not seen too often.
Attack
Antony: 7
Antony provided a threat out wide, taking quite a few shots although none on target. Good signs from the Brazilian though and his presence was definitely felt.
Marcus Rashford: 7
Rashford took his chance well and performed admirably at the number 9 position. Wasn’t afraid to drift or get involved in play, created a few chances that should’ve been taken better by his teammates too. His overall game, particularly final passes left a little to be desired.
Jadon Sancho: 6.5
A decent performance from Sancho, linked up well with players but a little more aggression in attack is still missing, still there were good signs and a run of games will do him good.
Substitutes
Anthony Martial: 6.5
Tyrell Malacia: 7
Fred: 6.5
