Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-0 Crystal Palace

Manchester United begin Ralf Rangnick’s reign with an Old Trafford victory vs Crystal Palace.
The way the Reds took to the first half was extraordinary to watch, the shackles were off and players were pressing in a way that was controlled and shocked Palace. Despite the chances created, United couldn’t find the back of the net.
It took until the 77th minute for United to find a breakthrough with none other than Fred’s well-taken strike finding the back of the net.
Here’s how each player performed with a rating out of 10:
Goalkeeper & Defence
David De Gea: 5
Manchester United’s number one didn’t have much to do today due to his team’s solid defensive effort.
Alex Telles: 7
Telles was really solid at the back. His defensive abilities impressed during the game today.
Harry Maguire: 6
Maguire led the backline in a confident and assertive manner. This was good to see considering his recent drop in form.
Victor Lindelof: 7
Lindelof was excellent at the back today, with a compact and assured performance. His reading of the game and interceptions were particularly notable.

Dalot was a stand-out player for United- he’s been exceptional during the last two games, making up for the absence of Wan-Bissaka. His one-on-one defending prevented several Palace attacks. In addition, both his forward passing and dangerous crossing into the box were extremely effective.
Midfield
Fred: 8
Fred had an enormous presence in the midfield today! He was everywhere. To add, he scored a fantastic, first-touch, long-ranged goal from outside the area.

Mctominay was poor, for me. He lacked discipline- misplacing passes, losing possession, and giving away plenty of fouls before being taken off.
Bruno Fernandes: 5
Bruno had very little impact, despite his best efforts.
Attack
Marcus Rashford: 5
Rashford provided a threat for United, using his darting pace to run in-behind the oppositions defensive line. However, he was caught offside on quite a few occasions, subsequently resulting in his substitution.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 5
Ronaldo’s link-up plays with the surrounding players provided momentum in attack for Manchester United. Despite this, he didn’t have a direct impact on the score-line.

Sancho looks to be gaining confidence, game-by-game. We are now seeing the real Sancho, who uses his incredible football intelligence and skills to move the ball around and beat the opposition players.
Substitutes
Mason Greenwood: 7
Greenwood looked very lively upon coming on the pitch after being out for a few weeks. He also managed to get a good assist.

Elanga’s impact was limited. However, we are sure to see more of the young winger in the near future.
Donny Van De Beek: 5
Donny came on quite late and did well in seeing out the game. He did his job, using his energy and tenacity to clear up the game in the midfield
