Manchester United 1-0 West Ham | Premier League

Manchester United move into the top four after a last-minute Marcus Rashford goal saw them over the line vs West Ham.

The three points were more than deserved as United’s main issue was in the final third. Defensively the Reds were dominant with the Hammers being limited to one shot on target. Just like in midweek Rashford was introduced to secure the victory and that’s what he did. However, a change that may go under the radar was the decision to introduce Anthony Martial. The substitution was met with grumbles of discontent from the Old Trafford faithful but the Frenchman’s part in the winner surely put smiles on faces.

Here’s how each player performed as United, for the time being, reenter the top four:

Goalkeeper and Defence

David De Gea: 6

He had very little to do, which suggests an improved defensive performance.

Diogo Dalot: 7

Another solid display from the full-back. He showed strong defensive abilities something he has been criticised for in the past.

Raphael Varane: 6

Varane was sturdy at the back, helping United to a clean sheet.

Harry Maguire: 7

This was a very good performance from the skipper. His aerial strength was unmatched as he returned to the startin line up.

Alex Telles: 6

Telles also played well defensively, whilst managing to keep a hold of possession and string together some excellent passes.

Fred: 6

Fred looked comfortable in midfield today – he was everywhere. His ball-playing is certainly improving, and he looks to have benefitted from playing in a more advanced attacking role.

Scott Mctominay: 7

Mctominay acted as a conductor in the centre today. He did a great job of keeping the West Ham midfielders quiet, allowing United to maintain control.

Bruno Fernandes: 7

Bruno worked tirelessly in a freer role to create something against a very well-organised, structured West Ham side.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6

Ronaldo looked sharp on the ball. However, he was unable to latch onto a huge chance and score today.

Anthony Elanga: 6

This was another impressive, mature performance from the youngster. He doesn’t look out of place within the first team, and he should continue to get game time.

Mason Greenwood: 5

Displayed some of the greed that many fans have grown frustrated with while watching the 20-year-old. One can only hope it’s something he matures out of.

Marcus Rashford: 8

Rashford made the difference today by scoring the winner in another excellent cameo appearance. Well done, Marcus!

Edison Cavani: 7

Cavani’s made a significant impact upon coming on, registering the assist for Rashford’s winner.

Anthony Martial: 7

Martial looked fantastic. He played a vital part in United’s goal, and looked very dangerous on the ball.
