Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-0 Wolves

Manchester United 1-0 Wolves | Premier League | Player Ratings

David de Gea: 7

Back to his best. David de Gea pulled out some brilliant stops tonight. On the occasions, the Spanish number one was called upon he displayed his cat like reactions to keep the ball out and keep United in the game.

Defence

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 5

Very much a passenger for the full 90 minutes. Defensively the game passed by the right back and offensively his lack of quality going forward was evident.

Eric Bailly: 8

A candidate for tonight’s man of the match, Eric Bailly was a rock at the back. The pace Wolves have in attacking areas is well documented but the Ivorian was more than a match for it providing brilliant recovery.

Harry Maguire: 7

While Bailly dominated the floor, Maguire marshalled the air. Almost everything in the air was met by Maguire’s proverbial “slab”. He was also up for the battle with Adama Traore, one that many would bet against the United captain losing.

Alex Telles: 6

Played 45 minutes before coming off for Luke Shaw at half time. While on the pitch, his crosses formed the heartbeat of United’s attacks.

Midfield

Nemanja Matic: 6

The Serbian midfielder slowed down the proceedings but that’s just how he controls games. His experience allowed him to fill the gaps at the back and keep out the likes of Traore.

Paul Pogba: 5

Pogba struggled to get into the game for the first hour, his misplaced passes and getting caught in possession was frustrating to see. In the final minutes, the Frenchman came alive pushing forward and impacting the game more in a more advanced position.

Bruno Fernandes: 6

Equally poor in possession Fernandes was roughed up in every sense of the word. The likes of Ruben Neves and João Moutinho didn’t allow United’s talisman any time on the ball. But when they did, for that split second in the dying minutes, he provided the pass that resulted in United winning the game. It’s what he does.

Attack

Mason Greenwood: 4

Barring a piece of quality during the first half to put the ball in for Fernandes’ back-post chance, he did very little.

Edinson Cavani: 6

The Uruguayan was provided with very little service and because of that had to deal with the scraps. He made the most of them, but it wasn’t enough to see Cavani score again.

Marcus Rashford: 7

The matchwinner, full of effort and desire the whole match and really captured the spirit of the result for the reds, a battle to the end. Though his finish was deflected, it wraps up a huge year for the Englishman.

Came on and changed the game, it’s not easy to come on and be faced with the wrath of Traore but he did that. He also impacted the game in forward areas with his crosses.
