Player Ratings: Manchester United 3-0 Brentford

Juan Mata and Cristiano Ronaldo star as Manchester United cruise past Brentford as Old Trafford closes for the season.
United started on the strong foot, with Bruno Fernandes ending his drought to put United ahead. Ronaldo doubled the Reds’ lead with a goal from the spot before Raphael Varane opened his United account from a corner.
Here’s how each player performed with a rating out of 10:
Goalkeeper and defence
David de Gea: 6
Atypical of this season, De Gea had very little to do. His distribution was of some concern at times but didn’t cause any real issues.
Diogo Dalot: 6
A mixed bag performance from Dalot, early on his pinpoint passing created United’s best chances. However, the quality of his ball-playing decreased as the game wore on. Saying that, he was solid overall.
Victor Lindelof: 7
A relaxed and composed performance from the Iceman, Brentford’s usually dynamic attack was limited to very little.

A solid performance capped off with his first United goal. Ivan Toney was kept well under wraps and Varane played a huge part in that.
Alex Telles: 6
The Brazilian put in a shift today both offensively and defensively.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic: 7
It was a final farewell to Old Trafford for Matic, but boy did he roll back the years with his performance. He brought a balance to the United midfield and played a big role in the fast movement of the ball from the defence to the attack.
Scott Mctominay: 6
A steady showing from the Scottish international, but ultimately didn’t have the same impact on proceedings as his midfield partner, Matic.

Talking of rolling back the years, Mata was another that showed shades of the player United signed in 2014. Every touch, every pass oozed quality. A great player and a great man.
Attack
Bruno Fernandes: 7
A well-timed run to break his run of 11 without a goal. Away from the goal his performance was steady.
Anthony Elanga: 7
Another whose effort will have gone under the weather. Elanga was up and down the wing, putting in a shift. Some of his runs weren’t found but when it was he assisted the opening goal.

We know about the hat-tricks and extraordinarily taken goals but this was Ronaldo’s finest performance since his return. His energy, his desire topped off with the quality in his interplay he was a genuine joy to watch. Whether it was his last appearance in Red at Old Trafford is another story.
