Player Ratings: Manchester United 7-0 Liverpool
Manchester United have just lost Liverpool 7-0 at Anfield, marking one of the worst defeats in United’s history and seeing the end to a run of form that saw the reds go 11 games unbeaten with wins against Barcelona in the Europa League Round of 32 and a Carabao Cup Final win against Newcastle coming in that spell.
With a game in the Europa League against Real Betis o Thursday it is imperative that the manager and players bounce back from this abysmal performance and get back to winning ways.
Here’s a rundown on how the players performed with each receiving a rating out of 10.
Goalkeeper and Defence
David de Gea: 3
Came up with a couple saves and wasn’t to blame for how heavy the loss was but should’ve done better for a couple of the goals, distribution was average today too.
Diogo Dalot: 2
An abysmal performance. Was caught out of position countless times and his crossing was very inconsistent. Nunez was able to have a lot of fun, particularly in the second half
Lisandro Martinez: 2
Comfortably Martinez’s worst performance in a United shirt. His usual aggression was lacking and normally is calm with the ball, but his passing was also off today. His worst part of the game was being torched by Salah for Gakpo’s second. An afternoon to forget for the Argentine.
Raphael Varane: 3
Sold too easily for Liverpool’s opener and overall was a very sloppy performance from the French international. Lacked his usual composure in defence today.
Luke Shaw: 2
An extremely poor performance from Shaw. He practically gifted Salah his second goal. Overall he was simply overwhelmed by the resurgent Liverpool attack.
Midfield
Casemiro: 2
Another player with their worst performance in their United career so far, Casemiro looked sluggish, was woeful in possession and his usual amsrt defending and on the field leadership was nowhere to be seen. Disappointing to see from a player with his experience.
Fred: 4
One of the less abysmal players today but still a largely useless performance. Struggled in possession and was often isolated against Liverpool’s press. Troubled Liverpool when in possession. Came off for McTominay an hour into the match.
Bruno: 3
As far as captain’s performances go this was a terrible one. Missed a haeder in the first half that could’ve put United up. Was shifted on to the wing to accommodate for Weghorst and was largely a passenger for most of the game.
Attack
Antony: 3
A game where Antony had chances to make an impact but poor passing in the final third were his downfall. Broke up a few counter attacks too. A very disappointing game.
Marcus Rashford: 4
Played at ST for large parts of the game, definitely his worst performance since the World Cup ended. Fluffed his best chance to get on the scoresheet too.
Wout Weghorst: 3
Failed to create anything and was largely a passenger for his time on the pitch and was subbed off with half an hour to go. Another poor showing.
