Player Ratings : Manchester United vs Aston Villa
Full Time: Manchester United vs Aston Villa 2-2
David De Gea: 6
Another game where a Manchester United goalkeeper is under zero direct threat but still manages to concede 2 goals. Average 6 for DDG.
Defence
Aaron Wan Bissaka: 7
In the first half, AWB was under a lot of pressure due to an energised Jack Grealish and apart from for Grealish’s goal when he was nowhere to be seen I felt he held his own. In the second half, Grealish was kept and that was down to Wan Bissaka.
Victor Lindelof: 7
I felt Lindelof was targeted by Wesley who wanted to pin him, similar to the way Ayew did it early on in the season. However, Lindelof was another one that held his own. He also took his header brilliantly to secure us a point.
Harry Maguire: 6
In the opposition box where Maguire was a threat, he looked good. It seemed we were playing to his strengths somewhat, targeting his runs in the box. But as the captain, ultimately I think he failed in commanding the backline. For the second goal, a true leader ensures that doesn’t happen. Man Utd is still in search of a proper captain it seems.
Brandon Williams: 6
Brandon Williams had an all-round decent game and was unlucky to be substituted but perhaps some tiredness crept into their legs. He could be argued to have been at fault for the goals however, as a 19-year-old doing what he has done for United in recent weeks, he is allowed one mediocre performance.
Midfield
Fred: 6
Fred did a lot of running today and had a few wild shots on goal. Other than that, he didn’t really impose himself against Aston Villa.
Andreas Pereira: 5
From the word go Andreas Pereira was off the pace. How he got to stay on the pitch for the full 90 I’ll never know. He put in a brilliant ball for United’s first but other than that his performance was shameful.
Juan Mata: 6
Juan Mata showed glimpses of magic throughout his time on the pitch but there was no sustained chance creation and that’s down to the man in the number 10 position.
Attack
Daniel James: 6
James took on some creative responsibility but in terms of making things happen, the Welshman was poor.
Anthony Martial: 6
Another poor member of a poor front 3. Anthony Martial was rightly substituted for a sub par performance and missed a shocking chance.
Marcus Rashford: 6.5
Marcus Rashford was poor for large parts of the game but his movement for his assist/goal/header thing was brilliant. He’s still in red hot form.
Substitutes
Lingard: 6
Shaw: 6
Greenwood: 6
