Player Ratings: Manchester United vs Istanbul Basaksehir

Manchester United vs Istanbul Basaksehir 4-1 | Champions League | Player Ratings

David De Gea: 6

There were two saves that David De Gea really had to make and the first was wonderful. He got down to his near post at a cat like speed. The second save he made behind the goal line, so we conceded. Strange one to concede from the free kick, he didn’t anticipate the trajectory well.

Aaron Wan Bissaka: 6

A lot more comfortable than we’ve seen him recently. Wan-Bissaka did provide an outlet on the right hand side and was involved in some of our good link up play.

Victor Lindelof: 7

What a pass! Lindelof only played 45 minutes but impacted the game nonetheless. The Swede showed his passing range with a brilliant ball over the top which resulted in a 3rd Manchester United goal.

Alex Telles: 7

We are now seeing what we missed at left back. Alex Telles creates the most chances of anyone on the pitch – mind blowing. His left foot on crosses is just amazing to see, it something Shaw didn’t do enough. Long may these performances continue.

Fred: 6

Fred has a decent game in midfield. Give the ball away quite a few times with some sloppy play but other than that he had a good game.

Donny van de Beek: 8

My issue with the Van de Beek situation is why has it taken him so long to get games. Every time he’s played he’s displayed his genius football mind. Today he was deep but he dictated play, everything started with him. Not only did he provide those delicate passes and set the tempo, he got stuck in and won tackles. The complete midfield performance.

Bruno Fernandes: 8

Was it Paul Scholes or Bruno Fernandes running around in the number 18 shirt tonight? Again the Portuguese magnifico is impacting games in the best way possible. An excellent Scholes-esque strike for the first of the evening and a well timed run resulted in the second. Strangely he turned down the chance to score a hat-trick giving the ball to Rashford instead but we’ll forgive him for that. He’s just a joy to watch in a Manchester United shirt. There aren’t many players that can compare to him in this form in Europe.

Marcus Rashford: 7

Rashford upped his game from his West Brom performance on the weekend. Playing on the right he was a lot more direct and willing to get in behind. He could’ve put United 1-0 up almost instantly with some brilliant footwork but it wasn’t meant to be. But his running in behind was rewarded by Lindelof’s pass that meant that he was taken down in the box. He slotted his penalty away perfectly.

Anthony Martial: 7

Again Anthony Martial didn’t get that goal that we all know he wants to get going but he had a good game. He played on the left of the front three where we’ve seen him thrive in the past. His tricks were there for everyone to see but that opportunity to get on the scoresheet just didn’t come.

Edinson Cavani: 7

Just imagine we got Edinson Cavani in his prime. He didn’t get a goal tonight but he is so intelligent as a striker, different to Martial as you can see the mileage in him; his movement wasn’t rewarded but he brings others into play and creates space for the likes of Fernandes to work his magic.

Axel Tuanzebe: 5

Tuanzebe came on at half time and didn’t look the greatest. He was a bit shaky but you’d imagine that’s down to some rustiness. It will be interesting to see whether he plays on the weekend with Lindelof coming off injured.

Daniel James: 7

James looked sharp when he came on, continuing his International form for club with a well taken goal at the end.
