Player Ratings: Manchester United vs L.A.S.K Linz
Manchester United vs LASK Linz 2-1 (7-1) | Player Ratings
Sergio Romero: 5
Romero faced a number of half chances which he dealt with comfortably. However, personally I felt with the goal he perhaps could’ve done better. Terrific finish from Wiesinger but Romero doesn’t leave the floor, De Gea saves that.
Defence
Timothy Fosu Mensah: 4
Very safe in his passing which meant that as a result Manchester United weren’t efficient going forward. Not a woeful by any means but his performance didn’t strike me as someone’s that had something to prove which he does.
Harry Maguire: 5
The captain started today much to everyone me surprise. It was a game that didn’t necessarily require him. He wasn’t called on defensively, however he did have a couple of chances aerially in the opposition box which he should’ve finished.
Eric Bailly: 6
A steady, under the radar performance from Eric Bailly.
Brandon Williams: 5
Similar to Fosu Mensah, early on just didn’t look set on going forward and beating his man. However in the second half he came out and did break into the box a few times.
Midfield
Scott McTominay: 5
McTominay was very poor, gave the ball away a lot and didn’t look sharp. Disappointing display.
Fred: 6
Fred was by a long way our best midfielder out of those who started. Even though his performance was nothing to write home about he still cleaned up messes left behind by his teammates.
Juan Mata: 3
Juan Mata looked leggy, tired and overwhelmed tonight. One of of his best qualities usually is his ability to play good passes but that was lacking. It seems we are in the end days of Mata’s United career. Although he was involved in Martial’s winner, it papers over the canyons of a dreadful performance.
Attack
Jesse Lingard: 7
Lingard was the one everyone’s eyes were on before the game. His goal against Leicester seemed to reignite some sparks of his old self. He showed energy and intelligence with his flicks. Another deserved goal.
Daniel James: 3
Daniel James’ confidence was rock bottom. At the start of the season, almost a year ago, he was our best player. Now he can’t make a final pass. With all the speculation around Sancho and Greenwood’s emergence he will struggle to find a place in the team.
Odion Ighalo: 6
Ighalo lacked service as a result of the rest of the team’s performances.
Substitutes
Paul Pogba: 7
Andreas Pereira: 6
Tahith Chong: 6.5
Anthony Martial: 7
Teden Mengi: 6
