Manchester United 6-2 Leeds United | Premier League | Player Ratings

David de Gea: 7

It’s unusual to concede two goals yet have a fantastic performance but that’s what you get with Leeds United. At times Leeds flurried his net but De Gea managed some wonderful saves. He provided stability between the sticks that seeped into the defence.

Defence

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6

We all know how good a defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one-on-one but his resolve was tested heavily by the likes of Raphina and Jack Harrison. He managed them to a man well however, defending the back post on corners is a deficiency we’ve seen time and time again. The right-back is lucky it didn’t cost us once again.

Victor Lindelof: 7

An assist in midweek and a goal tonight, Lindelof is in tremendous form. As a unit defensively United were dominant and that was largely down to what Lindelof was doing at the back.

Harry Maguire: 7

Maguire was given more freedom to make his well-known drives from the defensive lines. His progressive play allowed United to beat the Leeds press a number of times. On top of that, he and Lindelof didn’t give Patrick Bamford a sniff.

Luke Shaw: 7

Luke Shaw at left-back was solid. His calmness on the ball was crucial when breaking through Leeds’ press. Shaw’s relationship with Marcus Rashford on the left-hand side is one that goes under the radar but the two, moving together in unison is where a lot of our creativity comes from.

Midfield

Scott McTominay: 10

A performance fit for the nickname “Mcterminator”. From the word go he was at it. The only player to score twice in the first three minutes of a Premier League game. Both goals were well taken, a brilliant strike from the edge of the box to put us ahead was followed up by a touch and finish Solskjaer himself would be proud of. The Scottish international even grabbed an assist to top an all-round performance in midfield.

Fred: 8

Fred’s performance was one that would easily be awarded a man of the match on a usual day. Fred consistently sets a tone with his nibbles for tackles and passing forward. His energy all over the pitch was a match for Leeds, something other clubs have struggled with. The Brazilian played a huge part in Manchester United’s build-up play.

Bruno Fernandes: 8

Over the last two games, we’ve seen a different side to Bruno Fernandes’ game. He’s been able to subtly effect games rather than being our main point of call for our creativity. Saying that he still scored twice and got an assist. The magnifico is on another level at the moment.

Attack

Daniel James: 7

Many were sceptical about his inclusion, but in a game like today, he was tailor-made to perform. His willingness to run in behind, play quick passes and press was integral for the way we played. I don’t think there was a fan that wasn’t happy to see him get his goal, deserved after a long year.

Marcus Rashford: 7

Rashford has found himself in a great vein of form. Didn’t get on the scoresheet, didn’t assist but with the ball at his feet, you just feel he can beat anyone again.

Anthony Martial: 7

Martial in front of goal was a letdown, but everything else he was spot on. He was moving in and around the lines bringing others into play. I’m sure the emphatic result would not have happened had he not been available.

Substitutes

Alex Telles: 6

Edinson Cavani: 6

Donny van de Beek: 6
