Player Ratings: Manchester United vs Manchester City

Manchester United 0-0 Manchester City | Premier League | Player Ratings

David de Gea: 6

Had literally nothing to do, which sums up proceedings in the Manchester Derby.

Defence

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 7

Wan-Bissaka always relishes the opportunity to come up against Raheem Sterling. The Manchester City winger didn’t have a real sniff at goal and most of that was down to the right back.

Victor Lindelof: 7

Solid performance at the back for the Swede. Didn’t put a foot wrong all game.

Harry Maguire: 7*

A similar performance to his centre back partner, Maguire contributed to United’s impenetrable defence tonight. At times he did dither on the ball, allowing some opportunities to move the ball quickly to pass but his defensive display was a strong one.

Luke Shaw: 7

Luke Shaw made a return to the Premier league line up playing for the first time in the league since Everton away in early November. He came in and put a defensive shift in which seemed to be the job of the whole side. The likes of Riyan Mahrez and Ferran Torres couldn’t muster anything of real note in the game because of Shaw’s stubbornness at the back.

Midfield

Scott McTominay: 7

McTominay provided a much needed shield for the back four. His ability to beat a press with near turns of pace is one that is underrated in his game. The Scottish international could however have done more with progressing the ball quicker into the final third.

Fred: 7

Fred soldiered on after picking up a knock early on the second half. The Brazilian was still able to pull off some tricks and compliment McTominay’s presence well. Another player who could easily be man of the match.

Paul Pogba: 7

Paul Pogba is very much every football fan’s pantomime villain but today he put in as heroic a performance as he could. He linked up well with teammates in United’s attack but like all the forwards the final ball was lacking.

Bruno Fernandes: 6

Two of the most creative players in Europe played tonight and for the game to end goalless hints at the night that Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne has. Saying that, all United managed to create going forward came through him but some sloppy final third play let us down. Fernandes was quiet overall.

Attack

Marcus Rashford: 6

Rashford was sloppy with the ball at his feet his touch was off which meant that United had lost out on some real opportunities to go ahead.

Mason Greenwood: 6

The 19-year-old was lively throughout the whole time he was on the pitch but much like Rashford was didn’t manage to get a lot of the ball. Greenwood was eventually replaced by Anthony Martial.

Substitutes

Anthony Martial: 6
