RB Leipzig 3-2 Manchester United | Champions League | Player Ratings

David de Gea: 5

He couldn’t be blamed for the first two goals, however the third is just typical of the Spaniard. He doesn’t dominate his area with any conviction and that cost us the third goal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 3

To be be hauled off when he was, summed up his performance. While one-on-one the right back is unmatched, positioning is definitely his Achilles heel. The first goal Wan-Bissaka was in no mans land, for the second and third he swings his leg at them. Poor showing.

Victor Lindelof: 4

Lindelof showed no real defensive assurity. In the air he was dominated and along the floor he was beaten. Another defender that was substituted after playing poorly.

Harry Maguire: 4

Again, Maguire was at blame for the third. Although De Gea could’ve done more for the goal, the captain allowed the ball tho run across him into a danger area which is unforgivable.

Luke Shaw: 5

Back in the team today after a long spell out due to injury, Shaw had an okay individual performance. However fitness was clearly the issue as he was also early into the first half.

Alex Telles: 4

Just like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Telles’ positioning was shocking, which therefore led to the Leipzig second. Was it a symptom of our wing backs being exposed? perhaps, but we say the exact same thing happen vs West Ham, he seems not to have a single clue where to be. Offensively he produced nothing.

Midfield

Scott McTominay: 5

The main instigator behind our sloppy play, he gave the ball away needlessly on a number of occasions in midfield. The Scottish international wasn’t the worst player on the pitch, but he did not dictate play when we needed him to.

Nemanja Matic: 6

Matic probably was the one who wasn’t in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans to start. However, with Pogba’s agents comments yesterday there’s no way he could’ve been on the field at Kick-off. Matic was very safe with the ball at his feet but was unlucky to taken off.

Bruno Fernandes: 6

In open play, Bruno Fernandes was anonymous. Leipzig didn’t allow him touches on the ball where he could hurt them so they resulted to fouling the Portuguese midfielder. At set plays he was important putting in some great balls into dangerous areas. He also got his customary penalty goal.

Attack

Mason Greenwood: 6

Up there with United’s better performers, Greenwood looked the only real threat for the Red Devil’s. Granted, the 19-year-old had a chance to square the game early on which he took timidly, other than that his performance was by no means terrible.

Marcus Rashford: 5

Failed to impact the game as much as we would’ve liked. Although he had one or two spells where he looked dangerous, the final ball was lacking.

Substitutes

Donny van de Beek: 6

Paul Pogba: 7

Ironically came on and had a good game. There’s shame in the fact that had his agent not made those comments, and Pogba started, United would be booming their tickets into the round of 16.

Brandon Williams: 6

Axel Tuanzebe: n/a

Timothy Fosu Mensah: n/a
