Player Ratings: Real Betis 0-1 Manchester United

Manchester United have made their way through to the Europa League quarter-finals after a 1-0 win against Real Betis after the second leg at the Benito Villamarin Stadium. A 4-1 win in the first leg meant United had basically booked their place in the next round, although Betis were determined to give United some work to do. With United’s eyes on a cup treble, the result keeps this aim alive and they are now due to face Europa League titans Sevilla in the quarter-finals.
Here’s a rundown on how the players performed with each player receiving a rating out of 10.
Goalkeeper and Defence
David de Gea: 6
Made good saves and the Spaniard was kept busy by Real Betis. His poor distribution was on display during the game, however, an issue which also led to some of his good saves.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6
Was largely great defensively, Wan-Bissaka was limited in attack and stifled some of United’s attacks. A decent performance but nothing to rave about.
Harry Maguire: 7
A good performance from United’s captain, who made some solid clearance in tackles as Real Betis piled on the pressure and succeeded in keeping a clean sheet.
Lisandro Martinez: 7.5
A great performance United’s most reliable defender as has been the case for most of the season. A resolute figure in defence and the Argentine displayed his range of passing as well.
Luke Shaw: 6.5
An okay performance from the young Dutch defender. Didn’t have much of a presence in attack but was solid defensively and didn’t do too much wrong.
Midfield
Casemiro: 7
The Brazilian had a decent game, as usual, he was great in winning back possession and helped start some attacks in transition. However, he had a few misplaced passes that broke up the build-up.
Fred: 6.5
Was lively today and helped out the defence with important interceptions and tackles but he was inconsistent with his passing and technical play.
Bruno Fernandes: 6
Was a quiet night for Bruno Fernandes as his final third play wasn’t that sharp. He was wasteful in attack and sloppy in possession too.
Attack
Facundo Pellistri: 6
Some promising moments in the game from the young Uruguayan on his first start for the club. He was aggressive in taking on his man, as well as making runs, and showing some nice passes.
Wout Weghorst: 5
Was wasteful in front of the goal and failed to take his chances. As always he worked hard throughout the game but his lack of finishing will hurt United in bigger games if it doesn’t improve.
Rashford: 7
His strike was great for his goal but the usually clinical man missed a few easy chances this game. Grew into the game in the second half but it does look like fatigue was starting to set in.
