Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United will need patience – Weekly Takeaway
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at Ipswich during his first game in charge of the club.

Despite taking the lead after just 81 seconds, when the final whistle blew at Portman Road, Ruben Amorim was made aware of the task he has in front of him to turn the fortunes of a struggling Manchester United side.
However, as the new head coach himself suggested, he must take the risk with the new system to get the best out of the squad. How this will transpire is yet to be seen, but is something that fans should definitely get behind.
Marcus Rashford put United in front at Ipswich instantly after a wonderful assist from Amad Diallo, but that was about as good as it got for the away side. If it wasn’t for Andre Onana, United would have left Ipswich with nothing.

Fans knew before the arrival of Amorim what issues needed to be addressed next, but the first half alone highlighted just how important recruitment will be in the next few transfer windows to put United back where they belong.
A few changes early in the second half made it much more comfortable for United, bringing in Manuel Ugarte and Luke Shaw, but it wasn’t enough for them to push on and get the three points. Introducing both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee also gave United more attacking options, but again to little success as only a few half chances were created.
United had 60% of the ball but did not use it effectively enough, as both sides had 11 shots, with Ipswich undoubtedly having the better chances out of the sides.

With players also coming back from international break and Amorim not having much time to work with them in training, it made decision-making even more difficult in regards to the lineup.
Amorim rightfully explained how the club need to take the risk with his ideas rather than trying to cope with what the players are used to, because it will not get the club anywhere and we will continue having the same issues moving forward.
However, with two favourable home games coming up this week, with Bodo/Glimt on Thursday in Europe and Everton on Sunday in the league, fans should be able to see a bit more of what we can expect in hopefully a successful future under the Portuguese head coach.
Some positives to take from the game, but definitely a lot of work to do in the coming weeks. Fans will need to be patient.
